How much does an FHA appraisal cost?
HUD does not set FHA appraisal fees; it requires the fee to be customary and reasonable for the geographic area, and the borrower typically pays it as a closing cost. FHA appraisals generally cost a few hundred dollars, often somewhat more than a conventional appraisal because of the added documentation requirements.
FHA loans follow their own appraisal requirements, and the lender normally orders the appraisal for a mortgage loan. Appraisal fees in Idaho run relatively high compared with the national range, and complex assignments such as rural homes, properties with acreage, mountain or resort properties, and multi-unit buildings cost more than a standard single-family appraisal. Buyers typically pay for lender-required appraisals.
