What are the new FHA appraisal and inspection guidelines for 2026?
The answer depends on your state. Pick yours to see it.
An FHA appraisal determines both the home's market value and whether it meets U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards for safety, soundness, and security. The appraiser reviews physical features such as the foundation, roof, and siding, utilities and systems, and environmental conditions; common required repairs include peeling paint, broken windows and doors, and damaged major systems. An FHA appraisal does not substitute for a home inspection, and it is typically completed within a week.
