What does a full appraisal mean?

A full appraisal is the traditional, in-person valuation: the appraiser physically inspects both the interior and exterior of the property, then compares it against recent sales of similar homes. It differs from a desktop appraisal, which relies on public records and other data without a visit, and a drive-by appraisal, which covers only the exterior. The Appraisal Institute notes that desktop appraisals exist where the appraiser does not visit the home at all.
