What is a Fannie Mae hybrid appraisal?

A hybrid appraisal is an appraisal in which property data is collected remotely by a reliable third party familiar with the property, rather than by the appraiser during an in-person visit. The state licensed or certified appraiser then reviews that data, analyzes comparable sales, and reports the opinion of value. Mortgage appraisals do not always require an in-person visit; hybrid and desktop formats collect the information remotely.
