What is an MAI appraiser?

An MAI is a professional designation from the Appraisal Institute, not a state license. Designated members have gone beyond the minimum state licensing requirements and adhere to the organization's ethics standards. The designation is common among commercial appraisers, who must hold the state Certified General credential; earning an MAI requires additional coursework, an examination, and a substantial amount of specialized experience.
