What should I do if my home appraisal comes in low?
If you believe your appraisal is inaccurate, you can ask the lender for a reconsideration of value (ROV), if the lender offers that process. Support the request with evidence such as plat maps, square-footage measurements, photos and receipts of improvements, and a list of comparable home sales from the past 12 months. The lender must provide a copy of the appraisal no later than three days before closing, and complaints about an appraisal can go to the lender, its federal regulator, or the Appraisal Complaint National Hotline.
