How much does it cost to renew a real estate license?

Renewal fees vary widely by state and by cycle length. Regulators publish the figures: Florida charges $64 every two years, New York $65 every two years, Pennsylvania $96 per two-year cycle, and California $350 for a four-year renewal. Most states also require continuing education (commonly 12 to 36 hours per cycle) before a license can be renewed, and late renewals cost more.

Alabama real estate license renewal fees vary by license type, and a $150 late penalty applies if renewal is filed after August 31 of the renewal year. All licenses expire at midnight on September 30 of the final year of each two-year license period. The on-time renewal fee for a Utah sales agent is $102 total, and the on-time broker renewal is $108 total, each combining a base renewal fee with fingerprint processing and RAP Back fees. Late renewal within 30 days of expiration costs more for both license types, and reinstatement for licenses expired 31 days to 12 months adds a $100 reinstatement fee on top of the renewal fee. Licenses expired beyond 12 months require reapplication as a new applicant. The activation request fee to move from inactive to active status is $15, and if already enrolled in RAP Back, no fingerprint processing fee or RAP Back fee is required at renewal.

If a license has been canceled, reinstatement requires a $100 reinstatement penalty in addition to all back renewal fees with penalties, plus completion of 60 clock hours of approved coursework including a 30-hour Real Estate Law course completed within 1 year before applying.

The active license renewal fee in Wyoming is $350 for a three-year cycle, due by December 31 of the expiration year. Late renewals submitted between January 1 and March 1 of the following year cost $425 total ($350 renewal plus $75 late fee). Inactive license renewals cost $370. Licenses not renewed by the March 1 deadline are cancelled, and the holder must restart the entire licensing process from the beginning.
