How do you renew a real estate license?

You renew your real estate license with your state licensing commission before the expiration date printed on the license. Licenses run on 2-to-4-year cycles depending on the state, and renewal almost always requires completing continuing education first: 22.5 hours per two-year term in New York, 18 hours per two years in Texas, and 45 hours per four-year term in California. Late renewal is usually allowed for a limited period at a higher fee, but you cannot perform licensed activity until the renewal is complete.
