Do insurance agents earn commission on Medicare sales?
Yes. Under federal Medicare Advantage rules, agent and broker compensation includes commissions, bonuses, and other payments. The national fair market value benchmark for a Medicare Advantage enrollment is $539 ($672 in California and New Jersey, and $607 in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and DC), and renewal-year compensation must be paid at 50% of fair market value for contract years beginning with 2025. If the member changes plans within the first three months, the agent must return the full compensation.
