How do I become a remote insurance adjuster?
A remote adjuster follows the same licensing path as any adjuster. You need a license from your home state or, if your state does not license adjusters, a designated home state license from Florida or Texas, which many states recognize on application and fee alone. Several states also let you sit the licensing exam online through remote proctoring. Once licensed, independent adjusters contract with adjusting firms and third-party administrators.
To work as a remote adjuster in New Hampshire, you obtain an adjuster license and handle claims from any location. Residents must pass the PSI adjuster exam (Property and Casualty series 12-75, $72; Workers' Compensation series 12-76, $59), which PSI offers through its online remote-proctoring system, then apply online through NIPR with the $75 fee. Non-residents qualify with a home-state adjuster license or 6 months of verifiable adjusting experience.
