How do I become an Aflac insurance agent?
Aflac agents are licensed insurance producers, so the path starts with a state insurance license: complete any required prelicensing education for your line of authority, pass the state licensing exam, complete a background check (fingerprinting is required in most states), and submit the license application. After licensing, you contract directly with the company, and some carriers hire candidates before they are licensed and run them through their own licensing and training process.
You must first hold a New Jersey producer license, because an insurer can only appoint licensed producers to sell its products. Complete 20 hours of prelicensing education for each line you need (such as Life and Accident and Health), pass the PSI exam with at least 70% ($38 per exam), complete fingerprinting ($66.05), and apply through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) for $170 in state fees. The company then appoints you through a company appointment, the contract that gives a producer permission to sell that insurer's products.
