How do I get a resident (home state) adjuster license?

Adjuster licensing is set state by state. If your state licenses adjusters, you generally complete any required prelicensing course, pass the state exam, submit fingerprints for a background check, and apply through the state or the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Sixteen jurisdictions do not license adjusters (including Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin); their residents can claim a designated home state license through Florida or Texas and then obtain nonresident licenses in other states by reciprocity.
