How long does it take to become a public adjuster?
Licensing itself usually takes a few weeks to a few months, depending on your state, but several states add experience prerequisites. Florida requires 6 months of continuous appointment as an adjuster apprentice, independent, or company adjuster before issuing a public adjuster license, and New York requires a 40-hour prelicensing course. Most states also require a surety bond, such as Florida's $50,000 bond, New York's $1,000 bond, and Texas's $10,000 minimum.
