How much do health insurance agents make per sale?
It depends on the product. For Medicare Advantage sales, federal rules cap compensation at fair market value: $539 per enrollment nationally ($672 in California and New Jersey), and renewal-year compensation at 50% of fair market value for contract years beginning with 2025. For other health coverage, commissions are commonly around 5% to 10% of the first-year premium, with much smaller renewal amounts, and group health business is often paid per member per month instead of as a lump percentage.
