What are the different Florida insurance license designations (Group 1, 2-14, 2-15, and 2-40)?
Florida's Department of Financial Services numbers its licenses by class rather than by group. Class 2-14 is the Life license (including annuities and variable contracts), 2-15 is the combined Health & Life license (including annuities and variable contracts), and 2-40 is the Health-only license. Nonresidents hold parallel classes, such as 8-14 for Life and 8-15 for Health & Life. Each class has its own qualification page covering the Florida Statutes that govern it, the steps for becoming licensed, and any continuing education requirements.
Florida licenses life and health agents under numbered class codes. The 2-14 covers life insurance and annuity contracts, including fixed and variable annuities; the 2-40 covers health insurance against sickness or accidental bodily injury; and the 2-15 combines both lines. Each class carries its own prelicensing course: 30 hours for the 2-14, 40 hours for the 2-40, and 60 hours for the 2-15.
