What are the requirements to get a personal lines insurance license?
A personal lines license covers property and casualty insurance sold to individuals and families for noncommercial purposes, such as auto and homeowners coverage. Resident applicants generally must be at least 18, pass the state's personal lines examination, submit to a background check (often with fingerprinting), and complete prelicensing education where the state requires it. The NAIC uniform standard is 20 hours per major line of authority, but some states require no prelicensing hours and others require more.
