What does a title insurance agent do?
The answer depends on your state. Pick yours to see it.
A Florida title insurance agent is a person appointed in writing by a title insurer to issue and countersign binders, commitments, and policies of title insurance on the insurer's behalf (Fla. Stat. 626.841). In practice, agents determine insurability under the insurer's underwriting rules, examine title records for defects, conduct closings, and handle escrow funds. Title insurance may only be sold by a licensed and appointed title agent employed by a licensed and appointed title agency or by a title insurer.
