What is a general adjuster license, and how do I get one?
Most states do not issue a license called a general adjuster license. States license adjusters by type, typically independent, public, and all-lines (in Florida and Texas), while salaried company staff adjusters are registered by the insurer or work under the company license in some states. Typical requirements are age 18 or older, a state-approved prelicensing course where required, a passing exam score, and a fingerprint background check. Sixteen jurisdictions, including Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, do not license adjusters at all.
