What is Prometric, and how do I take my insurance exam through Prometric?
Prometric is a testing company that administers insurance licensing exams for certain state insurance departments, including Maryland and Massachusetts. Candidates register with their state's Prometric program, pay the exam fee, and schedule an appointment; Maryland, for example, publishes exam content outlines on its Prometric website to guide preparation. Prometric also offers free insurance practice tests in Life, Health, and Property/Casualty, though the practice questions are not state specific.
Prometric is the vendor that administers insurance licensing exams for the Maryland Insurance Administration. You create an account and schedule online, or call 1-800-610-1174 to schedule by phone. Each exam costs $65, and you can test at a Prometric test center or remotely through its ProProctor service. Bring one non-expired, government-issued photo-and-signature ID, and arrive at least 30 minutes early.

Prometric is a testing company, but it does not administer Massachusetts Division of Insurance licensing exams; Pearson administers all of them, in person at authorized Pearson test centers only. Register at pearsonvue.com/us/en/ma/insurance or call 888-674-1558 at least 48 hours before your exam date. The current content outlines took effect July 22, 2026.

New Jersey insurance licensing exams are administered by PSI Services LLC, not Prometric. PSI offers the exams at test centers in New Jersey and through online remote proctoring. The exam fee is $38 as of the September 2026 candidate bulletin; registration fees are non-refundable and expire one year after registering. You need a score of at least 70% to pass.
