What is the difference between Sircon and NIPR, and which one is better to use?
The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) is the industry's central licensing hub: a nonprofit that routes applications and renewals to participating states through its LicenseHub, adding a $5.60 transaction fee on top of state fees. Sircon is a private licensing platform some states use for the same tasks; Georgia, Texas, and California route applications and renewals through it. Neither is universally better, because the state dictates the channel. Texas accepts applications through either, while Florida does not process resident individual renewals through NIPR at all.
Sircon and NIPR are two online channels the Pennsylvania Insurance Department accepts for producer license applications and renewals, and neither is required over the other. NIPR, the National Insurance Producer Registry, is a national licensing hub that adds a $5.60 transaction fee to state fees. Sircon, operated by Vertafore, is also the state's system for CE transcripts, license printing, and address changes, and it may charge its own service fees.
