What is the Florida 4-40 insurance license?
The Florida 4-40 is the Customer Representative license, a property-and-casualty license class issued by the Florida Department of Financial Services. Under Florida Statutes 626.112, no one may act as a customer representative unless licensed and appointed by an appropriate entity. Customer representatives who are not also life or health agents complete 6 hours of continuing education every 2 years, and after gaining experience a 4-40 holder can pursue the General Lines 2-20 agent license through a shorter qualification path.
The Florida 4-40 is the resident customer representative license: a salaried employee of a general lines agent or agency who transacts automobile, watercraft, home, motorcycle, and pet insurance under the supervision of a licensed and appointed 2-20 general lines agent. You qualify by holding an approved designation (such as AAI, ACSR, AINS, CIC, CISR, or CPCU) or a degree with at least 9 credit hours of insurance instruction. A 4-40 may be appointed by only one general lines agent or agency, and continuing education is 10 hours per 2-year cycle.
