What types of questions are on the insurance license exam?
Insurance license exams are multiple-choice and combine general insurance content with state-specific law. Life and health exams cover policy types, riders, annuities, disability income, long-term care, Medicare and Medicaid, group coverage, and tax rules. Property and casualty exams cover insurance basics, dwelling and homeowners, personal and commercial auto, commercial property, general liability, workers compensation, and producer responsibilities, with state law questions making up a substantial share of the test.
Each Indiana insurance exam uses multiple-choice questions in two categories: general insurance knowledge and Indiana-specific state law. The Life exam, for example, has 50 scored general-knowledge questions and 30 scored Indiana state questions, plus 10 unscored pretest questions mixed in. The passing score is 70 on every exam. Pearson VUE publishes free content outlines that list the exact topics covered on each exam.

Utah insurance licensing exams are multiple-choice tests with four answer options, and each includes 5 unscored experimental questions that do not count toward the score. Each exam has a national section and a Utah-specific section, and practitioner guides describe the questions as a roughly even mix of terminology, numbers and days, and situational judgment, presented in random order. Prometric offers free practice exams for the Life, Health, and property and casualty producer exams on its website.
