Which states do not require an insurance adjuster license?
Sixteen jurisdictions do not license adjusters: Colorado, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. In these states, salaried staff adjusters can often work under the company's license. Adjusters in non-licensing states who want multistate work typically obtain a nonresident license by claiming a designated home state, such as Texas or Florida, which most other states honor on a reciprocal basis.
