How do you interview a sponsoring broker?
The answer depends on your state. Pick yours to see it.
When interviewing a prospective sponsoring broker, candidates should ask about training programs, mentorship opportunities, commission splits, desk or monthly fees, lead generation support, and brokerage culture. Commission structures vary, with common splits ranging from 70/30 (agent keeps 70%) to 50/50, and some brokerages operating on a flat-fee model with per-transaction charges. Georgia law requires every active salesperson to be licensed under an active broker, and the broker must hold a written agreement specifying compensation terms during and after the affiliation.

When interviewing a sponsoring broker, ask about training and mentorship programs, commission structure and fees, lead generation tools, company culture, and support for new agents. Research brokerages in your area, attend networking events, and prepare questions in advance so you can compare offers. You can interview multiple brokers before choosing one, and you should evaluate each offer based on factors like training quality, commission splits, technology tools, and long-term growth opportunities. Finding a sponsoring broker is the opposite of finding a job: you are interviewing the broker to see which one offers the best opportunity for you.

When interviewing a sponsoring broker, ask about training and mentorship programs, commission splits and whether graduated splits are available, monthly desk fees and other ongoing costs, lead generation responsibilities, marketing support, and company culture. Ask what per-listing and per-sale costs apply, what advertising and marketing materials the brokerage provides, and what the office's sales volume and agent turnover look like. Commission splits commonly range from 70/30 (agent retains 70%) to 50/50, and some brokerages offer a 100% commission split in exchange for a monthly flat fee.
