How can I tell if someone is a mortgage broker?

You can verify anyone claiming to be a mortgage broker through NMLS Consumer Access (NMLSConsumerAccess.org), a free public website that shows companies, branches, and individuals licensed or registered through NMLS, including license statuses by state and ten years of employment history. To check for disciplinary orders against an individual or company, you can also contact your state's mortgage regulator.
