How do I become a loan officer at a credit union?

If you work for a federally regulated credit union, you follow the federal registration path rather than state licensing: you register through NMLS, obtain a unique identifier, and submit fingerprints for an FBI criminal background check. The SAFE Act does not require federally registered loan originators to complete pre-licensing education, continuing education, or the SAFE MLO test. The credit union must determine your financial responsibility and provide training tied to your origination activities.
