How do I become a part-time mortgage broker?
The answer depends on your state. Pick yours to see it.
New York has no part-time mortgage broker registration: even if you intend to broker only one loan, you must be fully registered with the Department of Financial Services, with a $1,500 application fee, a qualifying individual, and a surety bond. There is no reduced-fee or limited-scope option. A broker who stops brokering loans can apply for inactive status instead, but must keep paying assessments and file annual certifications to keep the registration.
