How do I start and grow a loan officer business?

Starting an origination business requires two layers of licensing: you need an individual mortgage loan originator (MLO) license, and the company must hold its own state license filed through NMLS on the Company Form (MU1), typically with a business plan, fingerprints and credit reports for control persons, and a surety bond or minimum net worth. To grow the business, mortgage loan officers seek out clients by developing relationships with real estate companies and other referral sources.
