How much does a loan officer charge in fees?

Loan officers are usually paid a loan-specific fee or commission, paid by the borrower or by the lender, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Federal law prohibits commissions from varying based on the terms of the mortgage, and a lender may pay a salary, a fixed amount per loan, a fixed percentage of the loan amount, or a combination. Broker fees on a mortgage commonly run about 1% to 2% of the loan amount.
