What are the continuing education requirements for a mortgage broker?
State-licensed mortgage brokers must complete at least 8 hours of NMLS-approved continuing education every year to renew: 3 hours of federal law and regulations, 2 hours of ethics (including fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending), 2 hours on nontraditional mortgage products, and 1 elective hour. Some states add state-specific hours on top of the 8-hour federal minimum, and you may not take the same approved course two years in a row.
Montana requires 8 hours of NMLS-approved continuing education each year to renew: 3 hours of federal law, 2 hours of ethics, 2 hours on nontraditional mortgage products, and 1 elective hour. No Montana-specific continuing education hours are required, and CE completed for another state's NMLS-approved requirement counts in Montana.
