What does a mortgage advisor do?

Some lenders use the title mortgage advisor or specialist for what federal law calls a mortgage loan originator (MLO). The duties are the same: taking residential mortgage loan applications, offering or negotiating loan terms, collecting and verifying the borrower's financial information, and guiding the borrower from preapproval through closing. The advisor does not approve the loan; the lender's underwriting department makes that decision.
