What does MLO stand for?

MLO stands for mortgage loan originator. Under federal law, a loan originator is an individual who takes a residential mortgage loan application and offers or negotiates the terms of a residential mortgage loan for compensation or gain. Originators at non-bank companies hold a state license, while employees of federally regulated banks and credit unions register instead.
