What is the difference between a mortgage advisor and a mortgage broker?

Mortgage advisor is a job title, not a license category. Some lenders call their employed mortgage loan originators advisors or specialists, but the credential is the same state MLO license or federal registration either way. A mortgage broker is a company that is not the lender: brokers do not lend money but match borrowers across multiple lenders and are paid a loan-specific fee for that service.
