What type of loan officer makes the most money?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not break out pay by loan officer specialty, but its May 2025 industry data shows loan officers at automobile dealers had the highest median wage, $106,000, followed by management of companies and enterprises at $79,570 and credit intermediation, the industry employing 80% of loan officers, at $76,070. Common specialties include commercial, consumer, and mortgage loan officers.
