Completing the pre-licensing course

The pre-licensing course is the longest single phase of the licensing timeline. GREC rules^[1] set no minimum daily or weekly study requirement, so the speed is up to you.

Online self-paced courses allow the fastest completion because you control the daily hours. A traditional classroom meets on a fixed schedule that typically runs 11 weeks. An instructional hour in Georgia means at least 50 minutes of instruction, per GREC Rule 520-1-.02(o)^[1].

Background check: timing and concurrency

The criminal background check takes 3 or more weeks to process and can run concurrently with your pre-licensing course, making it a non-sequential step if you start early. Under GREC Rule 520-1-.04(7)^[1], each candidate must obtain a certified criminal history report from the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) no more than 60 days before submitting a license application.
