A licensee can receive credit for a specific required category only once per renewal cycle; additional courses in the same category count as elective credit. Residency status is determined by brokerage location: affiliation with an Oklahoma-based brokerage means Resident status, while affiliation with an out-of-state brokerage means Non-Resident status.

CE requirements for resident brokers

Resident Brokers must complete 30 hours of CE per renewal cycle, structured differently from the Sales Associate requirement, per the OREC CE Requirements page^[2]. The 30 hours include a 15-hour Broker in Charge (BIC) course, 6 hours of Contracts and Forms (CON), and 9 hours of electives. This applies to Managing Brokers, Branch Brokers, and Broker Proprietors with resident status.

The BIC course is specific to brokers and is not required of Sales Associates or Broker Associates.

Non-resident licensee CE requirements

Non-Resident Sales Associates, Non-Resident Broker Associates, and Non-Resident Brokers must complete 8 hours of CE per renewal cycle, consisting of 1 hour of Broker Relationship Act (BRA), 1 hour of Code and Rules (CAR), and 6 hours of Contracts and Forms (CON), per the OREC CE Requirements page^[2]. Non-residents must also hold an active license in another state and complete all CE requirements in that state.

Non-resident status applies when the licensee's brokerage does not have a physical office in Oklahoma. The reduced 8-hour requirement focuses on Oklahoma-specific rules rather than duplicating the broader education expected of residents.

Provisional sales associate post-license education

Oklahoma real estate license renewal fees

Lapsed licenses and reinstatement

If an active licensee does not complete CE or submit renewal before the expiration date, the license changes to Lapsed status, per the OREC Licensing FAQs^[1]. The reinstatement path depends on how long the license has been lapsed:

The reinstatement fee is $80 plus the renewal fee, per the OREC Fee Schedule^[3]. A background check costs $60 if required as part of reinstatement. For licenses lapsed more than one year but fewer than three, the licensee must retake the examination and complete a new background check in addition to paying reinstatement fees. For licenses lapsed more than three years, the licensee starts over with a completely new application.

Inactive license status and CE

Inactive licensees must still renew every cycle but are not required to complete any CE, according to the OREC CE Requirements page^[2]. Any CE not completed during the most recent inactive renewal period must be finished before returning to active status.
