CE stands for Continuing Education. Licensed Texas real estate sales agents and brokers must complete 18 hours of TREC-approved CE courses every two years to renew their license.
Texas requires 18 hours of continuing education per renewal cycle. This includes 11 mandatory hours — 4 hours of Legal Update I, 4 hours of Legal Update II, and 3 hours of contract-related coursework — plus 7 hours of TREC-approved elective credit.
CE (Continuing Education) and SAE (Sales Apprentice Education) are both required by TREC, but they apply at different stages of your license. SAE is required only for your first license renewal and involves 90 hours of qualifying education. CE is required for every renewal after that — 18 hours every two years. If you're looking for SAE courses, [we offer those separately → Texas SAE Courses].
Our 18-hour Texas CE package satisfies your full requirement and includes Legal Update I, Legal Update II, Contracts CE, Agency CE, Closing Procedures CE, and Government Loans CE — covering all 18 required hours.

No. There is no cumulative final exam required for continuing education (CE) courses. However, courses may include quizzes, knowledge checks, assessments, and scenario-based learning activities throughout the course to reinforce key concepts. These activities do not require a minimum passing score.
After completing your courses, you'll receive electronic certificates of completion which you should retain for your records. Your course completion will be electronically reported to TREC by our school.
TREC will send a license renewal notice approximately 90 days before your expiration date. You cannot renew your license until you receive this notice. Once received, submit your renewal application through the TREC online portal and keep copies of your renewal confirmation for your records.
No. TREC does not allow you to repeat the same course for CE credit within the same two-year renewal period. Be sure to select courses you have not previously completed during your current cycle.
If you have not completed your required Continuing Education (CE) by your license expiration date, you may still be able to renew your license.
If you renew before your license expires, TREC allows you to pay a $200 CE Deferral Fee, which gives you an additional 60 days to complete your CE while keeping your license active.
If you do not complete your CE within the 60-day deferral period, your license will become inactive until your CE requirements are completed and any applicable fees are paid.
If your license has already expired, the CE Deferral option is no longer available. You must complete your required CE and satisfy TREC's renewal requirements before your license can be returned to active status.
To avoid additional fees or interruptions to your license status, complete your CE before your license expiration date.
